Education is a powerful
tool for life as it passes
through generations.

Retrospectively, after graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry in Indonesia, I worked as a dentist professionally for a couple years before pursuing my master’s degree in Australia with the major of public health. During my study in Australia, I’ve learned the importance of disease prevention as well as the public promotion of essential health issues which increased my curiosity in basic science. The significance of basic science has been prominently associated with the deeper understanding of disease mechanisms by means of prediction, prevention, and rapid treatment development. Fortunately, to expand my knowledge in basic science, I received a rare opportunity to continue my study in a doctoral course at Oita University in the Cell Biology department.

During my childhood, my parents have taught me the importance of education, especially for women. Overtime, my achievements in education not only brought happiness for my parents but also as a powerful life-lessons tool for me and my children.

The main topic of my Ph.D. project was the genetic disorders in microcephaly, a rare genetic disease occurring in pediatric patients. The more I was diving into this particular subject, the more I am astonished by how the genetic instabilities are intensely associated with different range of disease mechanisms.

Gladly, post-graduation of my Ph.D. I have encountered such an amazing new journey to become a researcher at the Pediatric Department. Indeed, it was challenging and yet super enjoyable moments during my doctoral study. But on a side note, during all the hardships I have been receiving positive support from my inner circles (teachers, colleagues, family, and friends) that motivated me to persevere and to learn more. At the moment, I am trying my best to sharpen my knowledge in terms of other varieties of genetic disease in the Pediatric department.
